In 2017, through a unique collaboration between the University of Denver, Warrior Lacrosse, the Colorado Mammoth, and the US Box Lacrosse Association, the country’s first college-aged box lacrosse league was formed… the Colorado Collegiate Box Lacrosse League (CCBLL).

The league attracted players from not only the state of Colorado, but from cities and collegiate programs all over the country. The Bighorns won the inaugural Morrow Cup, sweeping the Fighting Bison 2-0 in the final series.

The National Collegiate Box Series (NCBS) was formed in 2018 with the formation of the Ohio Collegiate Box Lacrosse League (OCBLL) a collaboration between Ohio State and Cleveland State.  The Rivermen won the inaugural Ohio Cup, sweeping the Walleyes 2-0 in the final series.

In 2019 further expansion was unveiled with two additional affiliated leagues, the Maryland Collegiate Box Lacrosse (MCBLL), a collaboration with Towson University, and the Connecticut Box Lacrosse League (CTBLL). These affiliated leagues will offer interstate league play in 2019 and will become full NCBS members in the summer of 2020.

The NCBS also unveiled the first ever NCBS National Championship where the winner of the CCBLL challenged the winner of the OCBLL in Huntington Beach, California during the USBOXLA Nationals. Ohio's Rivermen topped Colorado's Fighting Bison 2-1 in the National Championship series.
