The National Collegiate Box Series (NCBS) kicked off this week with the opening night of the Ohio Collegiate Box Lacrosse League (OCBLL), while the Colorado Collegiate Box Lacrosse League (CCBLL) held its annual Entry Draft. On Wednesday, 102 players were selected in 17 rounds by the six teams in the CCBLL.

The Blizzard used the first overall selection to take University of Denver product Drew Erickson. The Danville, Calif. native recently completed his freshman season with the Pioneers, playing in seven games and posting three goals. He was the No. 40 rated freshman in the Inside Lacrosse Power 100 Incoming Freshman.

John Bowler was taken second overall by the Stoneflies. The Greenwood Village, Colo. native recently completed his junior season at Duke University. James Bowers (University of Colorado) was then taken third overall by the Gold Miners, while the Bighorns picked goalie Chandler Nayman (Whittier College). Bryan Hancock (Hobart) was scooped up by the Red Hawks at the No. 5 spot and goalie Skylar Whinery (Texas State) went sixth overall to the Fighting Bison.

The Blizzard were involved in the biggest move of the evening, acquiring goalie Chandler Nyman and the 16th and 17th round picks from the Bighorns in exchange for the Blizzard’s second, third and 13th round selections. Nyman has played in 19 regular-season games over the past two seasons with the Bighorns and was a member of the 2017 Morrow Cup championship team.

The CCBLL will open its schedule on Sunday with a tripleheader of action.
